Spanish fighter jets scrambled with Romania 'alert' as Putin launches huge attack Two F-18 aircraft from the Spanish Air and Space Forces were launched to minitor the threat after Russia launched a major attack on Ukraine overnight NATO fighter jets were scrambled last night after “an aerial target” was spotted near the border with Ukraine. The news comes after Russian forces sent a wave of attack drones and missiles at Ukraine overnight. The Romanian Defence Ministry said Spanish F-18 aircraft were launched in response at around 2am. Romania’s National Military Command Center confirmed that the F-18 aircraft of the Spanish Air Force, which had been assigned to the Nato Air Policing force, had been launched after the threat was spotted near the town of Isaccea. The news comes amid reports of a large Russian wave of attacks on Ukraine last night, with local reports of a Zircon anti-ship missile, two Iskander ballistic missiles and 152 drones used in the strikes. Air-raid warnings were issued in the city of Kyiv and several Ukrainian regions overnight, as air defences reportedly shot down 109 "aerial assets". Isaccea sits on the river Danube, which marks the border between Romania and Ukraine. The Romanian Defence Ministry said the two jets were launched "to monitor the situation," however following the alert no incursions into national airspace were reported.
