Garbage truck driver charged over elderly pedestrian's death in Queens Park The driver of a rubbish truck that struck and killed an elderly man in Perth's south-east earlier this month has been charged over the incident. Police said the 59-year-old driver, from the southern suburb of Riverton, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death. Chinese national An Yu, 70, suffered critical injuries when he was hit by the truck in Queens Park on September 7. The incident was captured on CCTV, with vision showing him walking down Balaka Way in Queens Park and the truck reversing into him, knocking him down. He was rushed to hospital but could not be saved. Well-known resident Neighbours described the victim as a quiet, sweet man who walked slowly after suffering a stroke a few years ago. Residents said they saw him regularly going for morning and afternoon walks. Locals told the ABC the road was an unfinished cul-de-sac with a development site at the end, making it difficult for trucks to turn around. Canning mayor Patrick Hall said the city would take appropriate steps to improve safety on the road, if required. The driver is due on court in November.
