Robin Hood's Bay, which is located in North Yorkshire, boasts a sandy shoreline complete with rock pools and fossils waiting to be discovered, alongside a host of cafés and eateries for visitors to enjoy. While it's pretty busy during the summer months, it's equally lovely to visit when the weather isn't so good, as the views are spectacular and there's so much to keep you entertained indoors as well. The beach has been named as the UK's very best winter beach spot by the experts at Holiday Cottages, thanks to the beautiful coastal walks which are all the more satisfying when it's a bit chillier out. The shore itself is dog-friendly and there are plenty of rock pools to look at. The Robin Hood's Bay and Fylingdales Museum, nestled in the heart of the village, gives visitors the chance to browse collections and displays of local significance. Just a mile south of Robin Hood's Bay lies Boggle Hole, a quaint cove that has been gradually carved out by the North Sea. It can be accessed via the Cleveland Way footpath, which treats walkers to spectacular views across the bay. The spot is a firm favourite amongst fossil hunters and welcomes dogs too. One visitor raved: "It is a lovely little walk from the village, fantastic views, and the added bonus of fossil hunting along the way." One TripAdvisor reviewer noted it had been "recommended as a good place to find fossils and not too crowded", adding: "Much to my son's delight we found five fossils quite quickly and had a lovely time skimming stones." For those keen to delve into the area's rich history, the Old Coastguard Station is a National Trust centre situated at the edge of the village. Visitors can discover the region's geology, the effects of climate change on the coastline, and the abundance of local wildlife. There's also a café serving sandwiches, pasties, hot drinks and ice cream, along with a selection of second-hand books to browse through. One beachgoer wrote on TripAdvisor: "Fabulous historic village where every step and corner reveals another fantastic view and makes you fall in love with this gorgeous place again." Another raved about the "thrilling drive down" to the beach, noting they thoroughly enjoyed the walks around the "amazing location". A third visitor added: "The whole area is stunning. Beautiful cliffs, great walking paths, and the town itself. Heaving in summer but better in other months." Yet another commented: "The views around are outstanding. It's really so very pretty down there I can't recommend highly enough."
