On the spectra of strong turbulence on water surfaces

Announce Type: new Abstract: Here, I give a brief history of the theory, with twists and turns, and list possible predictions for the spectra of the direct cascade of gravity waves on the water. The description of long waves is straightforward within the weak-turbulence theory developed by Zakharov and his school. As the energy cascade proceeds to shorter scales, the mean surface steepness grows, and wave-breaking events appear with increasing frequency.

Transitioning from A-level to higher education physics courses: where are the knowledge gaps?

Announce Type: new Abstract: Historical post-16 data for UK A-Level Physics, Maths and Further Maths are analysed to determine the relative popularity of A-Level exam boards. A curriculum mapping of the exam board specifications is implemented and compared against first year syllabi of undergraduate physics courses at high-ranked UK universities. Gaps in curricula are identified and recommendations are made to both university module designers and A-level exam board curriculum setters, with...

Integrating Fairness and Explainability in a Multiple Instance Reinforcement Learning System

Announce Type: new Abstract: Predicting student performance from educational interaction data requires models that are both accurate and sufficiently transparent to support meaningful intervention, while demographic information introduces an additional risk of unfair predictions. This study investigates a multi-objective framework that combines reinforcement learning-based multiple instance learning (RL-MIL), adversarial debiasing, and preference-conditioned hypernetworks for student-at-risk...
