Emergency services have raced to a UK beach after a body was discovered.
Search and rescue teams combed the shoreline at Eastbourne beach following a welfare concern that was first reported on Friday afternoon.
An RNLI helicopter assisted with the search at around 3.30pm on Friday. Eyewitnesses reported that the person was wearing a wetsuit when their body was found.
Sussex Police have since confirmed that a body was recovered from the beach.
An RNLI spokesperson said: "Solent Coastguard requested our volunteer crew to assist with a multi-agency search after unattended items had been located towards the west of Eastbourne. The ILB carried out a shoreline search alongside local Coastguard Rescue Teams, the coastguard helicopter 'Rescue 363' and Sussex Police officers. ".
Several police vehicles have been seen in the area as authorities continue their investigations into the tragic death.
