Football fanatic who'd been to every single AFC Wimbledon match for 37 years dies suddenly Michael Taliadoros, the AFC Wimbledon superfan who had watched every single one of his team's matches since 1989, died last night in news that has rocked the League One club Tributes have been paid to a legendary football fan who had just watched his team play in 2,000 consecutive matches. Much-loved Michael Taliadoros died last night, leaving supporters and staff of his club AFC Wimbledon devastated. He had watched every single game the Dons had played for 37 years, with not even a global pandemic or his club being uprooted to Milton Keynes holding him back. Incredibly, Michael, known as MikeyT at Plough Lane, famously could not only remember the score from every game he has ever been to, but when the date the match took place as well. The League One Dons announced his death this afternoon as messages flood in after the loss of their matchday commentator. He put his encyclopaedic knowledge of the game to good use when he became a matchday commentator, and said he counted his blessings with his role, allowing him behind-closed-doors during Covid - and the chance to keep his incredible run going. In total, Mikey watched 2,010 Wimbledon consecutive first-team matches - a run that spanned almost four decades. "The memories he has given and shared with us will last for many years to come, and we will never forget the dedication he gave to his roles as commentator and stadium announcer," the club said in a statement. "We send our deepest condolences to Mikey’s family and friends at this difficult time. "Rest in peace Mikey, a Wimbledon legend in every sense." The terrace legend sat down with the Mirror at the start of the new season, telling us that he never planned to stop. The voice of the Dons had just celebrated his 56th birthday. His commentary from the club's late win over bitter rivals Milton Keynes went worldwide back in 2024. He told the Mirror in August: “The run started away to Charlton on May 6 1989, and and the last match I missed was Man U a few days earlier. "That was the last Wimbledon game I wasn’t at. I had only just started work, and I hadn’t had my first pay packet. I’d just left college but as soon as I'd been paid for the first time, there was no stopping me! “The next season was our centenary year, so that summer a few of us said we’re going to try and do every game and it snowballed from there really. I did all 47 that year, including the Zenith Data Systems Cup away at Ipswich on a Thursday night just before Christmas! “The season after, my friend who had suggested going to every game got a better job so couldn’t carry on, I maintained a more humble existence employment-wise so I just carried on. "I make sure I am at every first tea, competitive league and domestic cup game. The friendly games don't count, as sometimes they split the squad and play twice in one day." Heartbreakingly, he added: “I just never want to stop. If I keep eating spinach and keep drinking cans of Lidl’s Red Bull equivalent, then who knows when the run will end. Myself and Rob [Cornell, co-commentator] will be like Statler and Waldorf from the Muppet Show into our 90s!”
