Log in President Donald Trump has revealed the make of his suit — and it’s not the luxury Italian label he’s known for wearing. At a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, Monday night, Trump was photographed pulling back his Navy suit jacket to reveal the company behind his signature attire. A tag sewn into the jacket lining read, “Jos. A. Bank,” which markets its “everyday low prices” on its website. People on social media noted the detour from the Brioni suits the president’s worn since the days of his 2000s reality show, The Apprentice. “Common wisdom has long been that Trump only wears Brioni suits (Brioni supplied him with wardrobe for The Apprentice), but lately he’s been wearing this navy Jos A Bank suit,” Aidan McLaughlin, Washington correspondent for Vanity Fair, wrote on X Tuesday. Trump said in his 2004 book, Think Like a Billionaire, that Brioni provided him with suits for his reality show. “I wear Brioni suits, which I buy off the rack,” Trump wrote, per a New York Times article published in 2016 about the-then first time presidential candidate’s fashion sense. In the article, Hope Hicks, Trump’s campaign spokeswoman at the time, said he was wearing Brioni in the lead-up to the 2016 election, but that he also likes other suit makers, including the Brooklyn label Martin Greenfield Clothiers. A suit from Jos. A. Bank typically ranges from $250 to $580, while a suit from Brioni can range from $5,500 to $16,200. But money isn’t likely an object for Trump, whose financial disclosures reportedly reveal that he made at least $2.2 billion last year. The Independent has reached out to the White House for comment on Trump’s suit choices. People online also pointed out that Trump, known for pushing companies to build more facilities in the U.S., opted for a label that offshores most of its manufacturing. Menswear writer Derek Guy shared on X, “Interesting. Jos. A. Bank suits are all made overseas, typically in countries like China and Bangladesh. “They carry an associate label called Joseph Abboud, which is made in the United States. I wonder why Trump chose the cheap import over the US-made suit.” Democratic communicator Josh Dorner wrote, “In the middle of HIS massive trade war, Trump shows off the label of a suit made…not in America.” Shortly into his second term, Trump announced sweeping tariffs against adversaries and allies, claiming their trade policies were unfair toward Americans. Most of the tariffs were struck down by the Supreme Court in February, which ruled that the global levies were unlawfully imposed.
