Bezos Academy opened its largest preschool in Texas; offers free education

Bezos Academy recently opened its largest preschool in Texas, Bezos Academy Denton. The $6 million school is located at 1820 Frame St. and has six classrooms which the academy says can serve up to 120 children. Founded by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in 2020, Bezos Academy offers Montessori-inspired preschool education at no cost to eligible families. The Denton school will also support children from across the community, including children of Texas Woman’s University (TWU) students and employees. The preschool was built on university-owned land through a partnership between TWU, Bezos Academy and the City of Denton. The city reportedly contributed $1.5 million toward the $6 million project, according to local reports. A report by WFAA said 20% of the school’s seats are reserved for children of TWU students, faculty and staff, while the remaining 80% are open to eligible families from the wider Denton community. “We are grateful to Texas Woman’s University, the City of Denton, Texas Women’s Foundation, and everyone who helped bring Bezos Academy Denton to life,” the academy said. What does the free preschool offer Bezos Academy Denton provides its preschool programme through fully funded scholarships. Families who qualify can receive education, meals, educational materials and other programming at no cost. The school is already fully enrolled for fall 2026 after a lottery process. Families interested in future opportunities can check the academy’s website for eligibility and enrollment information. With the Denton opening, Bezos Academy now has 12 schools across Texas: six in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, five in the greater Houston area and one in San Antonio. Jeff Bezos’ personal connection to Montessori-inspired early education Jeff Bezos’ focus on Montessori-inspired early education also has a personal connection. He has often spoken about how deeply his grandparents, particularly his maternal grandfather, influenced him during his formative years. His childhood experience has shaped his belief in the importance of early learning and the role supportive adults can play in a child’s development. The Bezos Academy preschool brings that idea into practice, offering Montessori-inspired education to young children while placing the school inside a senior-living community, where interaction between children and older adults can benefit both generations.
