Emergency services raced to the M5 between junctions three and four, but a 39-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 39-year-old man has died following a crash involving a car and a lorry on the M5.
Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4 shortly after 9.40pm on Tuesday.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported.
The N5 was closed both ways for a number of hours as forensic officers attended the scene.
The carriageway reopened at 8am this morning.
West Midlands Police said the driver of the lorry is assisting with enquiries as officers are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Those with dashcam footage of the crash are asked to contact the police.
A statement from the police reads: "We are investigating after a driver died in a collision involving a car and a lorry on the M5.
"Officers and emergency service colleagues were called at just after 9.40pm last night (Tue) to the northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4.
"Despite the best efforts of paramedics, a 39-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported at this devastating time.
"The driver of the lorry is assisting with enquiries as our Serious Collision Investigation Unit work to establish the exact circumstances of the collision.
"Officers are asking that anyone who has dashcam footage from around the time of the collision gets in touch.
"The carriageway was closed for a number of hours as the scene was forensically examined. It re-opened at around 8am.
