Aldi sets 'two person' shopping limit as major October sale sparks long queues Some items will be restricted at the tills if people try to buy too much Aldi has been forced to put a temporary rule in place for all shoppers as a major sale returns to stores from October 8. Queues of people waited outside Aldi supermarkets across the UK before doors opened on Thursday as the Wooden Toy event launched. With more than 50 toys starting from just £3.99, the range includes a variety of options that often prove popular with parents and children ahead of Christmas. Due to demand, the supermarket is capping the amount of specific toys shoppers can buy to ensure there is enough stock available for everyone. Ahead of the sale, Aldi bosses recommended that people should not wait past launch day "to avoid disappointment". This is because local stores often sell out of items soon after they land on shelves. An Aldi spokesperson said: "To meet anticipated demand, a strict two per product per person purchase limit will apply to certain lines. Aldi’s Wooden Toys range is available in stores from October 8, while stocks last. A maximum purchase limit of two per product per person applies to certain lines." Videos have been shared on social media of people queuing outside Aldi stores. Some people online have claimed to be outside their local supermarket as early as 6am and 7am to secure a front spot in the line to buy these toys. This year’s collection includes a variety of options for all sorts of interests and ages, including wooden railway sets, pirate ships, princess castles, supermarket roleplay sets and more. Some smaller sets are ideal as stocking fillers, including £3.99 vehicle sets, wooden food sets from £6.99 and a bucket of wooden building blocks for £8.99. Shoppers can browse the full range of wooden toys released as part of the sale here. For alternatives, shoppers may want to take advantage of Lidl's Wooden Toy sale - which also launched today (Thursday, October 8). What items are being restricted at Aldi? Aldi said: "The Wooden Toy range remains one of our most popular and anticipated Specialbuys. We are delighted for it to return with a few new exciting additions so parents can get their hands on quality and affordable toys for their children. "The Wooden Toys range is highly sought after, and demand is always exceptionally high. To ensure that as many customers as possible have a chance to purchase a piece of the range, a two per product per customer purchase limit on certain lines will be implemented." The supermarket did not explicitly state what items were being restricted, but it is often the large 'headline' items such as the Wooden Doll's House (£34.99), Wooden Kitchen (£29.99) and Wooden Market Stall/Cinema Stand (£29.99). Shoppers can usually check with staff in stores if there are specific rules in place about items on the SpecialBuy section.
