Brits are set to see temperatures tumble with maps showing five areas of the UK expecting to see the first freeze of the year in the coming days.
After an Indian summer during September where it remained unusually warm, the mercury is now finally dipping along with wet and windy weather.
Weather maps show a low pressure over the UK bringing the unsettled conditions and that then is set to depart next week with clearer skies and falling temperatures.
And frost is set to be felt in central and northern Scotland on Friday throughout the morning with the mercury hitting 0C, according to maps from WX Charts.
The Highlands, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Angus and Perth and Kinross are all likely to feel the cold snap while through most of Scotland and northern England it will be in low single figures.
Only in the south of England will it see double figures with the warmest parts in the south west where it could reach 14C.
BBC weather forecaster Stav Danaos said that it will feel "more autumnal" at times next week.
"As we move deeper into the week we will see high pressure in the south east, areas of low pressure skirting past the north west and at times bringing wet and very windy weather to the north west," he said.
"The high pressure continues to culminate towards central and southern areas and I think temperatures will be up and down as well. At times it will feel more autumnal but we will also see some warmer interludes as well but they will probably be mixed with wet and windy spells.
"So there will be some more autumnal weather on the way, temperatures will be closer to the seasonal average, maybe a little bit above at times towards the south east and we will see a greater chance of wet and windy weather in more western parts."
While the Met Office forecast for October 13 to 22 also points to cooler interludes mixed with temperatures which may be above average.
It reads: "Remaining changeable through the middle of October, as a series of low pressure systems run across the North Atlantic, often to the north and northwest of the UK, bringing occasional bands of rain and strong winds, but interspersed with brighter and more showery conditions.
"Rain will be most prevalent across hills in the west and especially northwest, where above average rainfall is likely through this period. Longer drier interludes are more favoured in sheltered southern and eastern parts, but even here it is likely to be wetter than during recent weeks.
"Whilst brief cooler interludes are possible, temperatures are likely to be a little above average in many areas for the period as a whole, potentially quite warm in parts of the southeast early in the period."
