Met Office says snow could fall this weekend as UK braces for colder weather Plunging temperatures this weekend could see showers turn wintry and bring snow in some areas, the Met Office has warned. Brits have been warned that this weekend could see snow in some parts of the UK as temperatures plunge. People across a wide swathe of the country have been told to brace themselves for “colder air, brisk winds and lively showers” with snow possible in certain parts, the Met Office has said. The wet and windy weather is set to bring an end to the unusually warm September as the mercury dips and things turn wintery. Saturday is due to start “on a chilly note” the Met Office weekend forecast said, with extensive cloud and a brisk wind for many parts. Most places can expect a changeable start to the weekend with conditions getting wetter over the course of the day. The Met Office forecast said: “Showers will move through widely during the day, with northern parts of the UK likely to see the most frequent and intense downpours. Scotland will be particularly prone to heavy showers, with a risk of hail and thunder. “There could even be a temporary sprinkling of snow over the highest ground, adding a wintry flavour to the autumn weather.” Most places can expect to see showers, the forecaster said, with only the far south and southeast standing any chance of avoiding a soaking. The brisk north-westerly wind is due to make temperatures feel colder than average for the time of year, according to predictions, while temperatures will feel extra chilly in northern areas that are exposed to both wind and rain. BBC weather forecaster Stav Danaos said that it will feel "more autumnal" at times next week. "As we move deeper into the week we will see high pressure in the south east, areas of low pressure skirting past the north west and at times bringing wet and very windy weather to the north west," he said. "The high pressure continues to culminate towards central and southern areas and I think temperatures will be up and down as well. At times it will feel more autumnal but we will also see some warmer interludes as well but they will probably be mixed with wet and windy spells. "So there will be some more autumnal weather on the way, temperatures will be closer to the seasonal average, maybe a little bit above at times towards the south east and we will see a greater chance of wet and windy weather in more western parts."
