Log in A clean energy Super PAC has targeted Congresswoman Lauren Boebert with a humiliating ad that reminds voters of the time she was kicked out of a Beetlejuice show. The Colorado Republican, who is a staunch opponent of Biden-era energy policies, was the latest GOP candidate in the midterm elections to be singled out by the Invest in Tomorrow Coalition, a group that works to elect politicians who support renewable energy. Weeks before Halloween, the Super PAC unveiled a new ad, showing security footage of Boebert being escorted out of a musical based on the 1988 horror film Beetlejuice in Denver in September 2023. “Costs are skyrocketing in Colorado, and politicians are failing us,” the ad, obtained by Politico, said. “If Lauren Boebert can’t be trusted in a room full of kids, then she can’t be trusted in the halls of Congress.” Boebert and her date were accused of vaping, singing, recording and causing a disturbance in the theater before being kicked out. Video of the two in their theater seats also appeared to show them fondling each other. Amid backlash from the incident, Boebert issued an apology, saying, “There’s no perfect blueprint for going through a public and difficult divorce, which over the past few months has made for a challenging personal time for me and my entire family.” “I’ve tried to handle it with strength and grace as best I can, but I simply fell short of my values on Sunday. That’s unacceptable, and I’m sorry,” the congresswoman wrote on social media at the time. Boebert is running for reelection against Democrat Eileen Laubacher in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which local outlet 9News describes as one of the state’s most Republican-leaning seats. The congresswoman says on her website that she believes in “unleashing America’s God-given resources to create jobs, lower energy costs, and strengthen our economy.” While she says she supports renewable energy such as solar, wind and hydropower along with oil, gas and coal, she insists that fossil fuels “are the backbone of our energy security.” Invest in Tomorrow will spend $1.5 million on its campaign against Boebert, according to Politico. This is part of a larger $15 million plan targeting a total of seven Republicans, including Representatives Scott Perry of Pennsylvania and Victoria Spartz of Indiana, who voted to end renewable energy incentives implemented under former President Joe Biden, The New York Times reported. “When we’re done here, we will have fundamentally reshaped the electoral incentives of congressional energy politics and sent a very clear message to our would-be opponents: No matter how safe you think your seat is, if you politicize our industry, we will come for you and we will win,” Tom Matzzie, a solar company chief executive who is chairman of the super PAC, said in the Times article.
