Log in Former Black Midi frontman Geordie Greep has canceled his North American tour after an allegation of sexual assault was made against him, which he has denied. The 27-year-old singer-songwriter was about to take the stage in Vancouver, Canada on Thursday when flyers containing the accusation were distributed among the audience. According to Rolling Stone, the flyers read: “Geordie Greep A Rapist. You know what you did this morning Oct 8th. He thinks he can do what he wants. Let Him Know What Vancouver Thinks of Rapists.” Greep eventually appeared later than scheduled, and without his backing band. He reportedly told the crowd: “So essentially what happened last night, me and some of the band we went out to some bars, we went out, we met people, and it ended up in a situation where, really late at a house party, I got the wrong end of the stick with someone who was there, and I made a move, and it didn’t come off.” He continued: “I really quickly apologized, and it was a complete misunderstanding on my part, and I felt extremely bad, I feel extremely sorry, and extremely upset about the whole situation. I would never rape a woman. I’m not a rapist. It’s not how that went down.” Greep went on to say that he would perform the show solo, as he “didn’t want to force [his band] to still play a show in the light of that happening.” He also stated that proceeds from the show would go to a Vancouver charity to support victims of sexual violence. Since then, Greep’s concerts in Boise, Salt Lake City, Boulder, and Denver have all been cancelled, with ticket-holders refunded. The singer is currently scheduled to begin a European tour on November 1. The Independent has approached Greep’s management for further comment. Earlier this year, Greep’s former Black Midi bandmate Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin died at the age of 26. The group, who formed in 2017, were part of an emerging scene that formed around the London venue Brixton Windmill. They released music through producer Dan Carey’s label Speedy Wunderground and Rough Trade Records. Rape Crisis offers support for those affected by rape and sexual abuse.
