'Very brave' schoolboy, 11, bitten in dog attack after he rushed to help 'screaming' woman Sarah McKenna said her son Frankee, 11, was bitten by a 'Bullmastiff' type dog and taken to hospital after trying to help a screaming woman who was being chased An 11-year-old boy was attacked by a dog while rushing to help a screaming woman who was being chased by the animal. Sarah McKenna said her son Frankee, 11, heard the woman screaming and rushed over to find her being chased by three 'Bullmastiff' type dogs that were on the loose in the Newton Heath area of Manchester. The youngster was then bitten by one of the dogs on his thigh and taken to hospital, where he was given antibiotics. The horror unfolded on Scotland Hall Road at around 4pm on Thursday evening, with armed police later arriving as the scene was taped off. Sarah said the dogs were being "aggressive and vicious", prompting staff at a nearby youth club to shout at children at the park to get out. Once the kids left, the lady began screaming, she recalled. "The three dogs ran into the park with no people at all about, but then they went after a lady who had three dogs with her further down the park," Sarah told the Manchester Evening News. "They were being aggressive and vicious so the youth club staff shouted the kids to get out of the park, so they all did then this lady was screaming. Frankee then got on his bike and rode over to her to help her. One of them then bit him on his thigh," the mum added. "The lady took him off his bike and put him in a tree away from the dogs. Then the police turned up some of them had guns and everything was taped off." Sarah said she was "proud" of Frankee for his "very brave" actions as she wasn't there at the time. She said the 11-year-old is now "fine" but "won't be going back on the park for a while". "It was very brave, I'm proud of him", Sarah added. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said one dog was seized and two others were placed in kennels. Their breeds have not been confirmed. A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an aggressive animal, the GMP spokesperson added.
