Brit influencer, 23, trapped in notorious Dubai detention centre as she's accused of murdering boyfriend TikTok influencer Brooke George is being detained at Bur Dubai, an infamous detention centre, which her family believes is profoundly impacting her mental health A Brit influencer accused of murdering her boyfriend has been hauled to one of Dubai's most notorious detention centres, where her mum has said she "can't sleep". Brooke George, a TikTok influencer from Gravesend, Kent, was arrested at Dubai International Airport the day after the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend, William "Bill" Treeby, on June 21 this year. The 23-year-old has not denied stabbing her boyfriend, 26, and her legal team has claimed she acted in self defence after she was charged with murder. While she awaits trial on the charges, she is being held in the notorious Bur Dubai police station, where her mum has said she is living a nightmare. Ms George's death penalty trial was delayed to October 28 after she attended a hearing in Arabia via video link on October 7, to which prosecution witnesses failed to appear despite being summoned. As evidence is gathered from remaining witnesses, her mental health is deteriorating, her mum has said, due to brutal conditions at the detention centre. Tess, her mother, has claimed every room in the facility is bathed in bright lights, and that detainees can hear the cries and screams from babies. She has not been provided medication that could help her sleep in the chaos, she further claimed, adding that any calls home are routinely interrupted. The family is now being assisted by Detained in Dubai. The pressure group's founder, Radha Stirling, said: "Brooke is suffering terribly. Her family describes a young woman who is increasingly upset, unable to sleep and struggling to maintain even the briefest contact with home. "Her mother is left wondering how much worse things will become before she hears her daughter's voice again. Two minutes on the telephone, followed by an abrupt disconnection, is distressing for everyone involved. For Brooke, those calls are a lifeline. "For her family, they are the only opportunity to hear how she is coping and offer some reassurance. Brooke remains in temporary police detention, with her family reporting constant bright lights, broken sleep and increasing distress." "These facilities were never designed for long term habitation. British citizens who were locked up there for only hours during the Iran strikes were terrified at the thought of spending days there, let alone months. She has been told she could receive medication to help her sleep, yet her mother says nothing has happened. "These concerns need to be addressed now. Her health cannot be put on hold until the next court hearing. We will do everything we can to help. "Brooke needs to know she has not been forgotten. Her family needs to be able to speak to her, and her worsening distress needs proper medical attention. Whatever the allegations, she is entitled to humane treatment while her case is heard." Ms George is not the first Brit to be held in Bur Dubai, with Brit tourist Lee Bradley Brown having died at the detention centre whilst in police custody in 2011 - after being arrested for a verbal altercation with a housekeeper at the luxury Burj Al Arab hotel. It was initially claimed that he died from choking on his own vomit, but a 2022 jury inquest revealed neglect and severe beatings from guards and inmates caused his death.
