Royal Mail is rolling out the change later this month
Major Royal Mail change customers may not know about:
- Millions of Royal Mail customers face major changes as the postal service slashes parcel collection times from October 25.
- Parcels held at Post Office branches and Royal Mail Parcelshops will now only be available for 10 days, down from the current 18-day window.
- The change affects parcels chosen for collection at checkout and those redirected after failed home deliveries. However, items at Customer Service Points will still be held for the full 18 days.
- Royal Mail operates more than 24,000 drop-off and collection points across the UK, including convenience stores, Post Office branches and parcel lockers.
- Second-class letters will now be delivered on alternate days only as part of sweeping postal reforms. First-class deliveries will continue six days a week from Monday to Saturday.
- The postal operator anticipates the new delivery schedules will be fully rolled out across all of its 1,200 delivery units by year's end.
- Performance targets are also being revised, with first-class delivery targets dropping from 93% to 90% next-day delivery.
