A woman has been accused of killing her husband and their three-year-old son at a family Great Wolf Lodge in Pennsylvania.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, allegedly fatally stabbed her husband, Charles, and their son in their hotel room at the Lodge’s Pocono Mountains resort in Scotrun, Pennsylvania.
Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso confirmed to reporters that it was Harrison who called 911 at around 3 p.m., shortly after the stabbings took place on Monday.
Harrison told the dispatcher that she needed help dying by suicide, the Pocono Township Police Department said in a statement. When officers responded to her hotel room, they discovered that Harrison was injured.
The 27-year-old was taken to St Luke’s Hospital. Police launched a homicide investigation after finding her late son and husband.
“Every day I work so hard to be the best person, the best mother, the best wife,” Harrison said in the ambulance, according to a complaint obtained by NBC 6. “It wasn’t supposed to end like this.”
Harrison added, “I was supposed to have my happy family. That’s what I envisioned since I was a child.”
Mancuso told reporters that the 27-year-old faces two counts of criminal homicide in connection with the killings.
Amid their investigation, police have described the incident as an “isolated domestic tragedy” and say that there is no threat to the community.
According to the criminal complaint, the family checked into the Great Wolf Lodge on September 21 and were set to check out Tuesday. A “large butcher kitchen knife” and a smaller blade with found in the bathroom, the criminal complaint reviewed by NBC 6 states.
In the report, hotel staff confirmed that the venue does not keep knives of that size.
The complaint, which was also reviewed by Fox News Digital, stated that Charles had suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest while the 3-year-old had sustained a single stab wound to his chest.
Security footage detailed in the complaint shows the three entering the room at around 7 p.m. October 11, with Harrison leaving the room around an hour later to use the microwave. Two hours later, Harrison and Charles went to the arcade before returning.
Mancuso says that Harrison’s motive for allegedly killing her husband and son is still under investigation.
“That's one of the most perplexing questions,” he told journalists. “But it's a developing situation.”
According to the complaint, when police tried to speak about the stabbings at St Luke’s Hospital, she told them that she was “suicidal, not stupid.”
On Tuesday, Harrison was denied bail and taken to the Monroe County Correctional Facility to await a preliminary hearing, police say.
A spokesperson for Great Wolf Lodge told The Independent that the firm is cooperating fully with the investigation.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by a tragic domestic incident that occurred yesterday in a guest room at our resort in the Pocono Mountains,” the spokesperson said. “It was an isolated family incident, and we’re cooperating fully with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation.”
The spokesperson added, “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected.”
