Ricky Hatton's £40m fortune 'missing' as angry family complain about 'inhumane' situation
Ricky Hatton's family have spoken openly about their attempts to gain clarity over the former boxer's estate
Ricky Hatton’s family have shared their frustration as they wait to see what will happen to the legendary boxer’s estate. The former world champion was found dead in his home on September 14, 2025.
‘The Hitman’ was beloved by boxing fans throughout his career and claimed world title belts across two divisions. Hatton retired from professional boxing in 2012 but returned for an exhibition a decade later and was preparing for another comeback bout against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai at the time of his death.
His celebrated career and numerous business ventures led to reports that Hatton was worth around £40million. However, more than a year since his passing and in the absence of a will, as far as his parents and eldest son Campbell understand, his family are still waiting for answers over when the missing money will be distributed.
Former boxer Campbell, 25, has complained about the process after attempting to clarify when his father’s estate will be shared between him and his two half-sisters. Ricky’s parents Ray and Carol have also shared their worries following what they claim has been a lack of transparency.

“The lack of answers is concerning,” Campbell told the Daily Mail. “I’ve asked the questions and I can’t see why I’m not getting the information.”
Ricky’s mother Carol claims the lack of transparency given to Campbell has approached “inhumane”. Discussing his grandson’s efforts to gain clarity on the situation, Ray Hatton said: “Campbell isn’t grabbing at money, he’s not saying, ‘Give me and my sisters £5m each’. He just wants to know what is going on and these people are telling him nothing.”
It is understood that Hatton’s estate is held within the Dorothy Hatton Discretionary Trust, named after Ricky’s grandmother. The trust is controlled by the boxer’s former secretary Catherine Lomas and his former legal adviser Paul Dodds, with Campbell claiming that his phone calls have been blocked.
Ricky’s son states that the trust have referred his correspondence to law firm Muckle and he has enlisted his own solicitor to help his search for answers. There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by Lomas or Dodds, but the wait for an outcome has not eased the family’s pain.
“Everything we’re telling you here is not for us – I promise you,” Ray explained. “We want nothing from Richard’s estate. Carol would maybe like his MBE and that’s it. The money, whatever else, it’s all for his kids, not us.
“But I will tell you something, I do want to know how much was left because when I came off his trust, in 2011, he was well set financially and we’ve heard a lot of things since then.”
He continued: “When I read about a £40m estate, that sounded about right for what it should have been by now. But I’ve heard from people around Richard that by the time he passed he had bridging loans on properties.
"He didn’t live an expensive life, so why would Richard need a bridging loan? The longer this goes on with the trustees, the more we want to have a proper idea of what was going on.”
