Prince Harry and King Charles' 'regular phone calls' exposed by royal expert Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to the UK to meet cheering crowds, but a royal expert has revealed a telling detail about their relationship with the Royal Family Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to Britain for a series of public appearances, but a royal expert has cast doubt on how warmly the couple have been received by the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted by enthusiastic crowds during their visit to Nottingham on Thursday, as they embarked on three engagements in the city. However, their return has reportedly yet to lead to a face-to-face reunion between Harry and his father, King Charles, despite the Duke's reported hopes of spending more time with the monarch. Roya Nikkhah, royal editor at The Sunday Times, discussed the relationship between father and son on The Royals podcast, which she co-hosts with Kate Mansey. The King, 77, continues to receive cancer treatment. She said: "We know that one of the main reasons Harry and Meghan moved back was because he really wants to spend more time with his father," reports the Express. "The King is still receiving cancer treatment. We're told by the palace, there's a very positive direction of travel for his health, but he's still receiving cancer treatment at the age of 77." Despite the lack of an in-person meeting, Roya suggested there had been signs of improvement in the relationship, revealing that the pair had been keeping in touch by phone. She said: "He hasn't seen his father since he's been back. The King's been out in Scotland a lot, but he has been down a few times. We're told they're speaking on the phone, a fair amount, I understand, and I'm told actually that relationship is getting better." However, the royal correspondent suggested that relations with the wider Royal Family remained less clear, saying she was unaware of Harry having met any other members of the family since his return. She said: "But the rest of the Royal Family, I'm not aware that he has seen any other members of the Royal Family yet since he's been back, and it doesn't feel like they've been welcomed back with arms wide open." Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as senior working royals six years ago before relocating to the United States. Their latest visit comes after they established a home in England in August. During Thursday's engagements, the couple met well-wishers outside the Community Recording Studio in St Ann's, Nottingham. They shook hands, posed for selfies and embraced some of the people who had gathered to see them. Meghan appeared pleased to be back in the UK, telling one woman: "Oh it's great to be back". The couple were also due to visit Himmah Hub, a community action group tackling food poverty, and Epic Partners, an organisation that supports young people through sport and mentoring. Although the appearances resembled a traditional royal visit, they were not official royal engagements. A letter authorised by the King last month reiterated that Harry and Meghan remain "private citizens". The couple are also awaiting a decision on whether they will receive taxpayer-funded security while visiting the UK. Harry has reportedly expressed concern about possible delays following a review of protection arrangements for public figures. The trip marks a significant return for Meghan, whose last public engagements in Britain were during the late Queen's funeral in 2022.
