Log in Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas snubbed Kimberly Guilfoyle of a traditional farewell as she leaves her ambassadorship after a bombshell report alleged she begged a Trump donor to pay off her six-figure credit card bill. Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, resigned Tuesday after the White House asked her to step aside following a series of troublesome reports that have raised questions about her conduct in office. Had the 57-year-old former Fox News host’s tenure ended under normal circumstances, she would’ve received a sendoff by top officials, according to a report. “Protocol has it that with every outgoing ambassador a courtesy call is placed with the head of state, the prime minister and the foreign minister,” a source at the Athens embassy told the Daily Mail. “However, because of her sudden ousting she will not be allowed to say goodbye.” Tasoulas's office confirmed to the outlet that there are no current plans for Guilfoyle to to receive the formal farewell. However, a top aide for the Greek leader speculated that Guilfoyle, who was once engaged to Donald Trump Jr., may try to force an official goodbye. “She is so brazen that no one is discounting she might show up anyway to try to force a grand farewell despite her current ignominy,” the aide told the Mail. “Anyone would be enormously embarrassed to do that, but this is Kimberly.” Staffers at the U.S. Embassy in Athens said her departure is “unprecedented.” “We have never seen such a violent beheading of the mission. Usually, these push-outs happen quietly. This was abrupt,” a staffer told the outlet. “There is no semblance of shock, rather relief that she’s been fired. She was horrible and mean and spoke down to just about everybody,” another staffer said. “She simply wouldn’t listen to anyone, even the most experienced career diplomats surrounding her.” Guilfoyle’s resignation came nearly a week after The Wall Street Journal reported that she begged wealthy MAGA donor Eric Deters for $100,000 to pay off her American Express bill. In exchange for the funds, she offered Deters help getting the Trump administration to look into his personal tax and legal issues. However, a lawyer for Guilfoyle disputed the authenticity of the messages to the outlet. Deters, a retired Kentucky lawyer, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Guilfoyle. Guilfoyle faced further trouble after The Wall Street Journal published another report claiming that she was caught on an audio recording raging about not being invited to a dinner party with the Trump family. News of Guilfoyle leaving her post came Tuesday, when the new White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia revealed that President Donald Trump had asked her to resign. “She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,” Zacharia told reporters. On social media, Guilfoyle thanked Trump for the opportunity to serve and vowed to “vigorously” fight the “false” allegations against her. “Serving as the United States Ambassador to Greece has been the honor of a lifetime,” she wrote. “From my first day as Ambassador, I have worked tirelessly to advance President Trump’s America First agenda, strengthen our strategic alliance with Greece, and deliver meaningful victories for the American people.” Join our commenting forum Join thought-provoking conversations, follow other Independent readers and see their replies Comments
