Log in Eric Deters, the MAGA donor whom former U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle reportedly begged to pay her six-figure American Express bill, has filed a defamation lawsuit against her and her legal team. In a video posted on Facebook Thursday, Deters said his lawsuit “might bring down the entire Trump administration — an administration which I have supported from day one, whose policies I still support.” “It also may end the JD Vance/Marco Rubio ticket,” he cautioned. Deters, a Kentucky attorney and former congressional candidate, made national headlines last week after The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle asked him to pay her $100,000 American Express bill in exchange for influence in the Trump administration. The scandal led Guilfoyle being pushed out of her ambassadorship, announcing her resignation from the post on Tuesday at the encouragement of the White House. “Honey please I need you to get this done for me today,” she texted Deters via Signal on July 3, adding a praying emoji and a PDF containing payment instructions from Amex, according to the messages obtained by the Journal. “You could just send it here. It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express that’s all that will show. Please.” The former Fox News host, was engaged to Donald Trump Jr. until the pair split in 2024. Her lawyers have disputed the authenticity of the text messages Deters shared with media outlets. Deters told CNN earlier this week that he did not give Guilfoyle the money. “They first said that the text messages were fake — defamation,” he said on Tuesday. “Then they said I was a known blackmailer. I’ve never blackmailed anybody in my life. Defamation. Now, they’re claiming that there are invoices when she knows that’s not true.” “In all the text messages, she doesn’t mention anything about me owing money,” Deters continued. “What she talks about is papering this. So, what she asked me to do was make up that I owed her money and write her a letter, and I did that for her. She knows that is phony, and I’m gonna be suing them all for defamation.” Deters said he did not owe Guilfoyle any money. He filed the lawsuit in Kentucky state court on Thursday. “Kim Guilfoyle and her lawyers claimed my allegations were false and they would defend the allegations vigorously,” Deters wrote in a statement with the lawsuit. “Now they can in Kentucky.” Guilfoyle has not commented on the lawsuit or her resignation beyond a social media post after it was announced she was asked to resign. Guilfoyle also made headlines this week after The Wall Street Journal published another report claiming that she was caught on an audio recording raging about not being invited to a dinner party with the Trump family. Upon her resignation Tuesday, Guilfoyle thanked Trump for the opportunity to serve and vowed to “vigorously” fight the “false” allegations against her. “Serving as the United States Ambassador to Greece has been the honor of a lifetime,” she wrote on social media. “From my first day as Ambassador, I have worked tirelessly to advance President Trump’s America First agenda, strengthen our strategic alliance with Greece, and deliver meaningful victories for the American people.” Join our commenting forum Join thought-provoking conversations, follow other Independent readers and see their replies Comments
