Donald Trump has hit out at Volodymyr Zelenskyy branding him "not a good guy" in a new blistering attack. It comes just days after the pair fell out after the Ukrainian leader branded a US deal to buy Russian diesel a “gift” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In an interview with Newsmax Trump addresses the Russia - Ukraine war, he said: "Zelenskyy is not a good guy for us to deal with." Trump was then asked by the presenter: "Have you lost faith in him?" To which Trump replied: "Well, I think they're going to end up with a settlement of some kind, they're not going to do it with him, he doesn't want to settle. He says he wants to settle but he doesnt. No I'm not a big fan of Zelenskyy they've destroyed that country."
Trump went on to say: "Putin hates Zelenskyy and Zelenskyy hates Putin and when you have that kind of hatred it's very hard to get something settled; but that's a war that should have never started."
Asked if the war will end before he leaves office Trump said: " It should end soon I think they actually both would like to see it end. But I think I find Zelenskyy more difficult to deal with than Putin."
Trump and Zelenskyy's are in the worst rift in months after the President announced that Vladimir Putin had agreed to release 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately "to the American and global marketplace" followed by several other shipments.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform at the time: "I have just concluded a highly successful discussion with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, wherein it was agreed that Russia will immediately supply over 300,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel to the American and Global Marketplace, another 500,000 Tons during the month of November, and 1,000,000 Tons immediately thereafter. Additionally, based on the condition of their Diesel Refineries, Russia will then deliver, within a short period of time, 3,000,000 Tons of Diesel Fuel.
He added: "Lower prices for Americans, especially our Great Farmers, Ranchers, and Truckers, is my Greatest Priority. This is a very big and important announcement."
The move sparked a furious response from Volodymyr Zelensky, who accused Trump of handing the Kremlin a "gift" and prolonging the war. He wrote on social media that the deal "plays into Russia's hands - allowing it to kill more, wage war for longer, have even less respect for America, and inflict even greater losses and damage on the world."
The row has been worsened by Zelenskyy’s order to his troops to target a refinery in Russia’s Ryazan region, south east of Moscow, which serves five per cent of the country’s output.
Zelenskyy, who was in London for meetings at 10 Downing Street spoke to journalist Piers Morgan, describing the Trump betrayal. Zelensky said: "It's a pity that we are losing a strong partner. I am sure they knew what they did, absolutely. Because it was 1am at night, Starlink was blocked by SpaceX and the United States. This decision will bring a lot of human losses. Of course, people will die."
Zelensky also told Mr Morgan that Ukraine would not be sold in any future peace deal with Russia. He said: "We're not selling our country. Look, guys, it's not about business for us. It's our lives. It's our country, our home, our children.”
