Log in That didn’t take long. Kristi Noem is out of her job as special envoy to the “Shield of the Americas” group, a spokesman confirmed. Her ouster caps a rough year in the Trump administration, which saw her fired in March as Secretary of Homeland Security. Her dismissal from President Donald Trump’s Cabinet came after a series of missteps, including a pair of civilian killings in Minnesota as part of his deportation push and a $220 million ad campaign that glorified her. After she was fired as DHS secretary, Trump announced she would serve as senior adviser to the Shield group. “We’ve seen the secretary’s time as envoy expire,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott told NewsNation. “She continues to be at the State Department as a senior adviser.” Further details of her departure were not released. “Shield of Americas” is an international coalition created under the Trump administration that is focused on organized crime, drug trafficking and intelligence sharing. Pigott said Noem will continue as an advisor, but did not describe what that would entail. “There’s always these types of changes that happen,” Pigott said. “This is part of what’s happening with these positions. But, certainly, we remain dedicated to implementing the president’s agenda across the board.” Noem was fired as Homeland Security Secretary in March to cap her 13-month stint. It came as deportation efforts increased in American cities and two U.S. citizens were shot dead by immigration officers in Minnesota. Noem initially described both incidents as “domestic terrorism,” but videos contradicted those claims. That led to outrage against Noem for being quick to downplay or excuse what happened in the killings of residents Renee Good and Alex Pretti. She was also under fire for the department’s visible and aggressive deportation push that saw agents flood cities to raid workplaces, homes and streets to find migrants to deport. Finally, critics bashed Noem’s $220 million ad campaign, funded by taxpayers, that featured her on horseback. Noem was criticized during Congressional hearings for the ads, and said Trump approved the spending. However, the president revealed he did not OK the ads and fired her shortly afterward. Markwayne Mullin was named her replacement and continues to serve as head of DHS.
