An 86-year-old woman has died and two others are injured, with one fighting for life, after a horror alleged knife attack at a care home in Germany.
A 72-year-old resident allegedly stabbed his victims with a knife in the cafeteria before being arrested in his room, German outlet Bild says police confirmed. Cops said he did not resist when police found him. The two injured are aged 81 and 83 with the older victim in a life-threatening condition, police added.
Police and firefighters rushed to the address after reports of a violent incident shortly after 7pm yesterday (Friday). Emergency teams landed two helicopters in the park in front of the St Vitus-Stift retirement home in Olfen, Münsterland.
One of the helicopters took off shortly afterward with one of the injured women and transported her to the University Hospital in Münster.
Officers found the 86-year-old woman with severe stab wounds and she died at the scene, a spokesman for the police in North Rhine-Westphalia said.
The senior citizens' centre houses 77 elderly residents requiring care. These are "people with varying abilities who need support and care due to health impairments.".
Attached to the building, is an assisted living facility with 36 barrier-free apartments. There are also group homes for seniors with dementia. The St. Vitus Foundation is operated by the City of Olfen.
