Man, 22, dies falling from Arc de Triomphe in France The incident comes amid huge protests across France but is said to not be connected A young man has tragically lost his life after falling from the iconic Arc de Triomphe in France. At around 3pm, emergency services swarmed the 8th arrondissement of Paris to reports a man fell from the iconic Champs-Élysées. The 22-year-old reportedly plunged 50 metres from the monument, to the horror of several onlookers, the Metro reports. Firefighters and paramedics raced to the scene but sadly, the man was pronounced dead, the prosecutor's office confirmed. The landmark has since been closed to the public. Officials say they are investigating a hypothesis that the young man died by suicide and may have 'jumped' from the monument. Officials said it is not thought to be linked to the widespread protests across the country "at this stage". It comes as police clashed with protesters across France today (Saturday), with violence, disorder and fires breaking out across major cities.
