Police officer shot in Nottingham as 999 crews swarm and streets sealed off A police officer has been shot and rushed to hospital after he approached two suspects in Angel Row in Nottingham city centre in the early hours of this morning A police officer has been shot in Nottingham city centre after approaching two suspects in the early hours of this morning. Nottinghamshire Police said the officer was shot after going up to a man and a woman on Angel Row at 4.50am this morning. The two people fled the scene following the shooting and police say a gun has been recovered. Cops are still hunting the two suspects and have appealed to the public for information. The police officer is currently being treated in hospital for a wound to his foot, the force said. Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This is a shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers as they work to protect and serve the public. "As we investigate what happened and work to apprehend the individuals involved, my thoughts today are with the injured officer, his family and colleagues." "I also ask that anyone with additional information shares this with us without delay. Even the smallest bit of information could make all the difference to this investigation." Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 106 of 18 October 2026. Curtis Jackson, 22, who was walking home from his night shift nearby, told the Nottingham Post: “My thoughts go out to the police officer, this is really a terrible incident. "It’s a scary thought that on a Saturday night, when most people go out to have a fun night, someone was in town with a gun ready to use it. I’ve only moved to the UK from the USA recently, and also witnessed the fire the other week. I must say I feel quite worried to be in the city at night.“ A resident of a nearby building said: “I was woken up by a lot of commotion around 5am. Living here, this is nothing unusual, so I didn’t think much of it at first. It does worry me that the suspects are still on the run, and I hope the police can find them as soon as possible. "I hope the officer can recover soon. He was only doing his job and should never be subject to this kind of violence.“ This is a Breaking News story.
