Kim Jong-un's £75m luxury mega-yacht with giant waterslide spotted as North Koreans face food shortages Satellite imagery has shown Kim Jong-un's £75m luxury mega-yacht with a massive pool and waterslides anchored off North Korea's Wonsan coast, as ordinary North Koreans face crippling food shortages Portly despot Kim Jong-un is enjoying the high life aboard a colossal £75million super-yacht complete with an enormous pool and waterslides - while his people go hungry. Satellite imagery examined by the BBC has uncovered a vast 263ft floating palace navigating waters off North Korea's Wonsan coast between July and mid-October. The craft features an extensive 164ft deck pool crowned with a collection of enormous waterslides. Following months of inactivity in a maintenance yard, it moved into position near the Kalma Peninsula - within easy reach of a luxurious beachside villa frequented by dictator Kim and his closest associates. A flotilla of leisure vessels has also been observed sailing around Kim's coastal retreat in satellite images monitored by the broadcaster. Former North Korean regime official Ri Jong Ho disclosed the elite's summer retreat arrangements to the news network. He said: "In winter, they would keep them at the shipyard. When summer came, they would bring them out and move them to Kim Jong Un's villa or towards Kalma, and use them for swimming and recreation.", reports the Daily Star. Ri, who formerly served in the regime's clandestine slush-fund Office 39, condemned the supreme leader's contradictory way of life. "Kim Jong Un is supposed to be a 'leader of the people', yet he has four luxury vessels like these while ordinary people are struggling just to get one meal a day," he said. Specialists estimate comparable floating palaces fetch staggering valuations spanning tens of millions upwards to beyond £75m. While ordinary North Koreans endure devastating food shortages and crushing poverty, with per capita income languishing at a pitiful £513 annually, the regime persists in lavishing resources on luxuries for the privileged few. Intelligence sources and defectors revealed to the BBC that Wonsan has served as the Kims' private paradise for decades, stretching back to Kim Jong-un's youth under his father Kim Jong-il's leadership. A former bodyguard who spent 13 years protecting royal properties recounted witnessing scores of privileged youngsters and teenagers jet-skiing along the coastline during summer getaways. Even basketball icon Dennis Rodman shed light on the dictator's extravagant way of life, describing a colossal vessel they used as a cross between a ferry and a Disney boat. Satellite imagery reveals a total of four enormous vessels, ranging from 164ft to 263ft in length, conducting frequent journeys around the Wonsan estate. The largest craft has remained moored near Kalma since July, while smaller 160ft boats have been observed encircling it. Satellite imagery analyst Jeong Seong-hak informed journalists that smaller tender vessels were spotted ferrying provisions, fuel and passengers to the fleet. He noted that the tiny neighbouring islands provided "secluded maritime retreats where privacy can be maintained away from public view".
