Trump says New Mexico should immediately be renamed New America in astonishing rant US President Donald Trump, the leader of the free world, has told residents in the state of New Mexico that its name should 'immediately' be changed to "New America" as the move would boost incomes Donald Trump has called for the US state of New Mexico to “immediately” change its name to “New America” in a bizarre social media post. The US President’s latest online pronouncement claimed that the name change "would add great value and prestige to the state". Trump also claimed that the move would somehow boost house prices and incomes in the state while telling residents "you would be even prouder while saluting our beautiful American Flag". In the rant, posted on his Truth Social platform, the president said: "New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America! The name would add great value and prestige to the State! "Home Values and Incomes would rise, and you would be even prouder while saluting our beautiful American Flag! Maybe even the Crooked Elections, that New Mexico is known for, would become honest again!" This is not the first time Trump has made such calls. In September, the president posted a map of New Mexico with "Mexico" crossed out in red and replaced with "America." In a video to residents of the state earlier this month endorsing Republican Greg Cunningham, who is running for Congress there, Trump began his speech "Hello New America — formerly known as New Mexico." The president then insisted the decision was "up to you," telling New Mexicans that it would be a "beautiful change" but that he's "not going to push it." "A lotta people are liking it a lot," he added. Trump famously already tried to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and, more recently, Lake Ontario to Lake America during escalating tensions with Canada over trade sanctions. While signing the executive order to rename the lake, Trump mused: “If you think about it, we have a gulf, and we have a lake. Now all we need is an ocean. So maybe we'll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific, or maybe we will change them both."
