North Korean state media have posted 'proof of life' images of dictator Kim Jong Un after wild rumours that the leader had died
North Korea has issued "proof of life" images of Kim Jong Un following wild claims that the dictator had died from a brain hemorrhage.
The images published by North Korean state media on Monday show Kim examining children's footwear and women's coats at a garment and footwear exhibition.
The photos have surfaced just hours after the wild claims circulated online that the 42-year-old leader had fallen into a coma and died after being rushed to Beijing for emergency treatment.
North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency stated that Kim toured the exhibition on Monday, although the images have not been independently authenticated and it remains unclear exactly when they were taken.
The images have been published after Wanjun Xie, a US-based Chinese dissident associated with the China Democracy Party, claimed that the leader had died on X on Sunday.
Xie said in the post that Kim had died and that China had dispatched 9,000 troops to Pyongyang. He also alleged that a team of specialists from Beijing’s Peking Union Medical College Hospital had been sent to North Korea on Saturday to treat Kim following a severe hemorrhage.
Xie added that the North Korean leader slipped into a coma before being transferred to Beijing and doctors were unable to save him.
This is a breaking story, more to follow.
