New Lidl 18p-to-use gadget out Thursday keeps you warm at home without heating on With the weather turning colder, many people may be impressed by the affordable gadget As winter approaches, many UK households are looking for clever ways to stay warm without sending their energy bills skyrocketing. Budget supermarket Lidl is introducing a popular solution, priced at just £17.99, and it is coming to all UK stores this Thursday. As part of the supermarket's new 'Winter Essentials' Middle Aisle range, customers will be able to get their hands on a new gadget that costs pennies to run. In stores from October 22, Lidl customers can get a Tronic Ceramic Fan Heater in either black or white. Lidl says the heater has an adjustable thermostat to control room temperature, with two heat settings: 700W and 1200W. In the product description, it adds: "Can also be used as a fan. With control dials. Practical handle at the top. Protection against tipping and overheating." With the current UK energy price cap, running the Lidl heater on its low (700W) setting costs just 18.4p per hour. Even at its maximum power (1200W), the cost is only 31.6p per hour. Because the unit features ceramic technology, Lidl says it heats up and distributes warmth fast. It also includes an adjustable thermostat that automatically shuts off the heating elements once your room reaches the desired temperature, further reducing your actual hourly costs. While electricity is technically more expensive per unit than gas, the Lidl heater becomes a money-saver when used for "zone heating." A standard whole-house gas central heating system can cost £1.70-£2 per hour to run. By turning down your central thermostat and using the Lidl space heater to heat only the specific room you are using, you could save a significant amount of money each month. The main rule is to heat the human, not the home. Electric space heaters are highly efficient for personal, targeted warmth, but trying to heat multiple rooms with them will quickly drive up your bills. The supermarket says: "Bladeless – easy to clean and no risk of injury. With LED mood light in 5 different colours and colour changing mode. Even air distribution for a pleasant, warm temperature. Can also be used as a fan. 20 speed settings." There will also be a Silentnight Airmax 600 2L Dehumidifier going on sale for £44.99. Lidl says: "This dehumidifier from Silentnight removes moisture from the surrounding environment to help keep your home comfortable. Features whisper-quiet sleep mode and a handy night light. Removes mould spores and dust mites to help ease overnight congestion." Another option is a White Oil-Filled Radiator for £29.99. Lidl explains: "Provides comfortable warmth. Variable thermostat and three heat settings (600/ 900/ 1500W). Large heating area with seven fins. Four castors and a recessed handle for easy transportation."
