Elon Musk said it’s a “good idea” to combine SpaceX with Tesla, in what would be the biggest-ever corporate merger. What’s more, the boards of both companies have formed special committees to consider the idea.
Tesla has a market value of about $1.5 trillion, while SpaceX is valued at $2 trillion. A merger would create a conglomerate spanning electric vehicles, batteries, rockets and satellites. The stated rationale for bringing those very different businesses together lies in a shared ambition to leverage AI for data centers in space, driverless cars and humanoid robots.
