Ukraine's first lady has pleaded with world leaders not to ignore a Russian attack on a park that left a toddler dead in her pram. The drone strike killed fiver others.
One-year-old Angelina Mariukhna was killed in her stroller on October 19 when the drone hit a park Ukraine 's northeastern Kharkiv, where families with children had gathered. Now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's wife Olena has spoken out.
Little Angelina, her mum Inna, 28, and four others, including an 11-year-old girl, were killed in the incident. More than a dozen other people, including children, were hurt.
The First Lady said:"Parents seize every opportunity to let their children breathe fresh air after spending so much time in shelters. Russian killers took advantage of that moment, too."
A horrific image of Angelina's lifeless body has gone viral and sent shockwaves across the globe. Despite the attack, US President Donald Trump has said that Russia has not "been doing much".
Speaking reporters at the White House, he said, "Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much."
UN human rights monitors warned that Russia's intensifying attacks had driven civilian casualties to some of the highest levels since war broke out in February 2022.
The US has recently been accused of withholding intelligence during Russian strikes and limiting Ukraine's access to its Starshield satellite network, while buying Russian diesel and dropping sanctions on the country that invaded its neighbour more than four years ago.
It was revealed this week that the world's wealthiest man, and President Trump's ally, Elon Musk ordered the slowdown of a military-grade version of Starlink relied on by Ukraine, US officials have said. The decision caused panic in Kyiv and left Ukraine vulnerable to Russian attacks.
Mr Trump and Mr Musk's animosity toward the Ukrainian leader has grown in recent weeks, as the president looks to lower diesel prices ahead of November's midterm elections.
Just days ago, Mr Trump also said Ukraine should replace Mr Zelensky as President. His special envoy Steve Witkoff also fawned over Russian leader Vladimir Putin this week during talks in St Petersburg, saying Mr Trump was "deeply grateful" for their diesel deal.
Mr Witkoff even called the Russian dictator "humanitarian" for releasing US prisoner Stephen Hubbard, 74, who Russia had claimed was fighting for Ukraine.
"Because of you, he's going home to his family," Mr Witkoff said. "You talk so much about my president, President Trump, being a humanitarian. You are a humanitarian also, sir."
