The Met Office warns that strong west to northwesterly winds will sweep across the regions on Thursday night and into Friday, with gusts of 50 to 60mph likely. Some coastal and exposed areas of south-west England could see gusts exceeding 70mph. Winds are expected to ease gradually on Friday afternoon. An amber warning covering south-west England is in place from 1am to 10am tomorrow. Gusts of 60 to 70mph are likely, potentially reaching 80mph over exposed headlands, the Met Office said. The "very strong winds" will combine with spells of heavy rain, although they are expected to ease later on Friday. The second yellow warning, which runs from 10am to 9pm tomorrow, covers a wider area of England. The Met Office warns that spells of strong winds, reaching gale force at times, could cause localised disruption. Although winds are not expected to be as strong as those further south and west, gusts of 45 to 55mph are possible during the day.
