Rylan Clark terrified cinema-goers in an undercover mission. The TV and radio presenter received coaching from former Gogglebox star and 'Master of Mischief' George Baggs to nail a real-life jump scare – all in the spirit of Halloween entertainment.
The star disguised himself as a sofa, and at one stage, concealed himself inside a photobooth before bursting through the screen - leaving his victims screaming in shock.
Hidden-camera footage captured the priceless reactions as Rylan suddenly leapt into action, putting his frightening training to good use during screenings at Vue Cinema in Islington. Unsuspecting moviegoers who screamed together were instantly rewarded with complimentary cinema passes and sweet treats.
The stunt was organised by M&M'S, which is offering film enthusiasts the opportunity to claim 500 free cinema tickets through its Halloween 'Scream Time' campaign.
Rylan said: "Halloween is right up my street. I love a spooky film and playing tricks on people so causing a bit of chaos in the cinema was basically my ideal day out.
"The reactions were priceless. One-minute people were minding their own business, the next they were jumping out of their seats and cracking up laughing.
"That's what Halloween's all about, having a laugh, making memories and enjoying a bit of mischief together."
The light-hearted prank follows research of 2,000 adults commissioned by the confectionery brand, which revealed 44% enjoy settling down to watch a frightening film during Halloween season.
While 22% named watching scary movies as their favourite Halloween activity, it pipped decorating the house (13%), pumpkin carving (12%) and trick-or-treating (11%) to the top spot.
It appears the nation's passion for spine-chilling cinema runs far deeper than a few jump scares. While 43% love the suspense and anticipation, 24% also enjoy attempting to crack the mystery as the plot develops.
Meanwhile, 17% said it's the wave of relief once the tension finally lifts that keeps them returning for more.
It's also an experience most prefer to share, as 34% admitted they'd rather not watch a frightening film without family or friends by their side.
Nearly three in 10 (29%) also believe Halloween movie nights offer the ideal excuse to enjoy quality time with their nearest and dearest.
In fact, 10% have transformed spooky film evenings into a cherished family tradition, according to the OnePoll.com figures.
Even so, some still struggle to keep their nerves in check, with 16% confessing they've ducked behind a cushion during a particularly hair-raising scene.
The research also uncovered the Halloween films that have made the greatest impact on audiences over the years, with The Witches crowned the nation's most memorable spooky family film.
Georgia Woodward, chief of spooks at M&M'S, said: "Halloween is all about sharing fun, laughter and a little bit of mischief with the people around you.
"Whether it's getting together for a spooky movie marathon at home or heading to the cinema with friends, these are the moments people love experiencing together.
"As the research shows, Halloween films have become a much-loved tradition for millions, which is why we're celebrating the season by encouraging people to embrace the shrieks, the laughs and, of course, the treats that come with them."
