The NHS is offering Covid jabs to certain groups of people this autumn and winter
Those receiving Covid vaccines this autumn and winter are being urged to familiarise themselves with potential, albeit rare, side effects that require immediate medical attention.
Over the coming months, the NHS is offering Covid jabs to adults aged 75 and over, residents in care homes, and anyone aged six months or over who is immunosuppressed. Vaccinations will be administered until December, with those most at risk being called forward first. Covid vaccines can be received alongside an annual flu jab, or booked separately, provided at least three months have passed since your last Covid jab dose.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) further explains that different vaccines may be offered to different people. Available formulations include updated vaccines produced by Pfizer, Moderna, or HIPRA, which are designed to deliver stronger antibody responses against Omicron strains.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has approved these updated vaccines for use, and eligible individuals are strongly advised to accept whichever authorised vaccine they are offered to guarantee timely protection ahead of winter.
Common Covid jab side effects include a painful, heavy feeling and tenderness in the arm where the injection was administered (typically at its worst around one to two days after the vaccine), general aches or mild flu-like symptoms, headaches, and fatigue.
