Katie Miller, the wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, has warned about Democrats who want to go after President Donald Trump’s staffers who commit crimes.
Democratic lawmakers have constantly sounded the alarm over Trump administration policies that they consider to be illegal, such as the president’s massive deportation agenda, his war in Iran and his sweeping tariffs — most of which the Supreme Court already struck down.
Miller has now warned that the Trump administration should believe Democrats when they say they will go after those who have committed crimes.
In an X post Saturday, Miller referred to comments made by Sen. Brian Schatz from Hawaii, who Punchbowl News said secured support from a majority of Democrats to become their next whip once Dick Durbin retires next year.
“There is some pretty significant corruption at the deputy assistant secretary level,” Schatz recently told The Bulwark’s Sam Stein. “There should be a message across the government—not that we’re going to punish anyone who worked for the Trump administration—but that we are a country of laws and not of men.
“And if you committed an actual federal crime, that as long as the statute of limitations has not run, you should probably get a lawyer.”
Miller cautioned on X: “When Democrats say they are going to prosecute and go after junior Trump staffers, we should believe them.”
The Independent has reached out to the White House for comment.
Miller previously worked as an aide for Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, early in the president’s second term. Headed by tech billionaire Elon Musk, DOGE gutted federal agencies to reduce what the Trump administration saw as government waste.
Democrats have also viewed DOGE’s actions as unlawful, and members of the party who serve on the House Oversight Committee are reportedly looking to target Musk, depending on whether November’s midterm elections go in their favor.
“Our committees need to be doing oversight both into the Trump administration, but I think even more importantly or equally importantly into the corporations and ultra-rich people who have tried to corrupt our government,” Representative Greg Casar from Texas told Politico’s flagship newsletter Playbook.
“And, of course, Elon Musk is on that list because it takes two to tango.”
Miller’s warning comes as White House attorneys are weighing whether to issue mass pardons to junior staffers, according to a new report from The Washington Sun.
A pardon for all junior officials in the Trump administration seems unlikely, a source familiar with the matter said. But the publication noted that Trump could give blanket pardons for those involved in policy areas such as immigration, war or trade.
