US President Donald Trump attacked Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed in a Truth Social post ahead of a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, calling him a “Jihadist Member of the Muslim Brotherhood” and accusing him of wanting to impose Sharia law in the United States. “Heading to Michigan to fight a Jihadist Member of the Muslim Brotherhood — A man who should never be allowed inside the Halls of our Great and Beautiful Capital Building, in Washington, DC Everything he stands for is bad for our Country, which is now the ‘HOTTEST,’ by far, anywhere in the World!” Trump wrote. He also claimed credit for the performance of the US auto industry and for preserving Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan. “Because of me, the Auto Industry is doing better than it has ever done before, with Plants and Factories being built, and expanded, all over the Country, especially in Michigan. I saved Selfridge Air Force Base when the Dumocrats were closing it down, saving thousands of Jobs and the Prestige that comes along with having such a place — Only I could have done that!” he said. Trump then repeated his allegation against El-Sayed, writing: “Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed wants our Country to go to Sharia Law. If it ever does, he should be the first that’s tried!” Trump arrived in Port Huron for a midterm rally on Sunday, where he was expected to campaign for Republican gubernatorial candidate John James and Senate candidate Mike Rogers, who is running for an open seat. His visit came a day after former president Barack Obama campaigned in Detroit for Democratic candidates, including El-Sayed and gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson, along with other Democrats on the ballot. The back-to-back appearances by Trump and Obama highlighted the national attention surrounding Michigan’s November elections, with nine days remaining before polling day. Michigan’s Senate and House contests could help determine control of Congress, while the gubernatorial race will decide who leads the state. Key issues in the election include the economy, gas prices, tariffs, immigration and foreign policy, alongside state-level concerns such as education, healthcare and data centres.
