Met Office issues new yellow weather warning - full list of 50 areas impacted today Fresh weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office after the UK was battered by Storm Austen and Storm Boelo Fresh weather warnings have been issued as the UK is braced for more strong winds and heavy rain after storms caused major disruption over the weekend. Original weather warnings for Tuesday have been extended. The Met Office has put two yellow wind warnings in place for western areas of England and parts of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Monday evening into Tuesday, with the potential for ongoing disruption. As conditions appeared to slightly calm on Monday, recovery efforts were underway after Storm Boelo battered parts of the north and brought 84mph gusts and a third of a month’s rain to some areas in Scotland. The fresh weather warnings are likely to halt this recovery. The warning in place from 6pm Monday until 3am Tuesday covers parts of north-west England, Northern Ireland, south-west England, Strathclyde, south-west Scotland and Wales. It forecasts gusts of 45-50mph inland and 60-65mph along exposed coasts and over high ground. These strong winds could be accompanied by heavy rain, with disruption expected in the early hours of Tuesday. Another yellow Met Office warning for strong winds and potentially damaging gusts is in place from 3am on Tuesday until midnight for most of Scotland and the far north-east of Northern Ireland. On Tuesday, early rain is to clear eastern and south-eastern England, while heavier rain in the north west of Scotland will gradually turn to showers, the forecaster said. The strongest winds will continue to affect Scotland, particularly in the far north and north west where gusts in excess of 70mph are possible. The Hebrides are most likely to experience the strongest winds which could potentially last several hours. Elsewhere, there will be sunny spells and showers will continue, with some heavy rain in western areas. Areas covered by weather warnings on Tuesday: North West England - Cumbria Northern Ireland - County Antrim - County Down - County Londonderry South West England - Cornwall - Devon - Dorset - Isles of Scilly - Plymouth - Torbay Wales - Bridgend - Carmarthenshire - Ceredigion - Conwy - Gwynedd - Isle of Anglesey - Neath Port Talbot - Pembrokeshire - Swansea Central, Tayside & Fife - Angus - Clackmannanshire - Dundee - Falkirk - Fife - Perth and Kinross - Stirling Grampian - Aberdeen - Aberdeenshire - Moray Highlands & Eilean Siar - Na h-Eileanan Siar - Highland Orkney & Shetland - Orkney Islands - Shetland Islands Strathclyde - Argyll and Bute - East Ayrshire - East Dunbartonshire - East Renfrewshire - Glasgow - Inverclyde - North Ayrshire - North Lanarkshire - Renfrewshire - South Ayrshire - South Lanarkshire - West Dunbartonshire SW Scotland, Lothian Borders - East Lothian - Edinburgh - Midlothian Council - Scottish Borders - West Lothian From Wednesday the forecaster says that conditions will begin to settle, as high pressure increasingly begins to influence the UK. This will bring lighter winds and drier weather across much of the UK on Wednesday evening and Thursday, though western areas may remain breezy and experience a few light showers. Mist and fog could be dense and slow to clear, leaving some areas chilly and grey, while brighter spells elsewhere will allow temperatures to rise into the teens. Although conditions are expected to be much calmer over the weekend, there still remains a chance of rain affecting northern Britain on Saturday and into the night. Greg Dewhurst, senior operational meteorologist at the Met Office, told the Press Association: “Most will have a day of sunny spells and blustery showers on Tuesday, showers heaviest and most frequent in the north. “Thereafter for the week ahead we see a change in the weather. High pressure will build from the south over the coming days so generally settling down but potentially bringing some overnight fog at times. This high pressure looks set to remain over the UK for the weekend too. So most places dry, though perhaps some patchy rain in the north at times. “Temperatures by day will be near or a little above average reaching around 12-16C, though perhaps some chillier nights are possible by the end of the week as high pressure builds in.”
