Two men rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds after shooting near O2 academy Islington Emergency services raced to a street in Islington last night, where two men, aged 33 and 27, were each found with a gunshot wound and taken to hospital Two men have been shot near the O2 Academy in Islington in what police called an "incredibly reckless" incident, with one suffering life-changing injuries. Emergency services raced to Liverpool Road - which runs behind the busy Angel Central Shopping Centre - shortly before 10.30pm last night. Two men, aged 33 and 27, were each found with a gunshot wound. Both were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 33-year-old's injuries have been assessed as life-changing. Police have yet to make any arrests and an investigation is underway. The Metropolitan Police said the Angel Centre remains closed as officers carry out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances leading up to the incident. Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the area, said: "This was an incredibly reckless incident in a busy area close to a major venue and no doubt caused significant fear among members of the public. "Violence has no place in our communities, and we are pursuing every available line of enquiry to identify those involved." The public has been warned to expect an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, with anyone with concerns urged to speak to officers. "The Angel Centre remains closed as we conduct enquiries at the scene," Chief Superintendent Stewart said. "We recognise the impact this is having, and we are grateful for the understanding and cooperation of the community. We are working with our partners to reopen the venue as soon as possible." Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is urged to contact 101, quoting CAD 7386/27OCT, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
