Fresh weather maps show bitterly cold conditions making a comeback as the UK edges closer to winter, with one region braced for the chilliest temperatures
A brutal cold snap may see temperatures dip to -4C in a matter of days, with one UK region bearing the brunt, new weather maps show.
The data, by WXCharts, shows bitterly cold conditions making a comeback as the country edges closer to winter. Scotland is braced for the chilliest temperatures, the maps reveal.
Up to ten counties in northern Scotland could reach between -1C and -2C by Friday, November 6, while the rest of the country remains in the single digits.
Areas in the north, Midlands and south, could see lows of between 6C and 8C, while much of Wales is forecast for lows of 5C.
Freezing conditions look set to return the following day, with -4C possible in the north-easternmost tip of Aberdeenshire by midday on November 7, according to WXCharts.
It comes as the UK recovers from two brutal storms which saw three people killed and more than 160,000 left without power.
Storms Austen and Boelo struck within hours of each other on the weekend of October 23–25, wreaking havoc across the country.
It caused widespread travel disruption, flooding, power cuts and event cancellations as wind gusts topped 80mph.
James Abiwon, 29, was named as the man killed during Storm Boelo when a tree crashed onto his car in north London.
Royal gardener, Richard Baines, 60, was also confirmed to have been killed during the storm when he was struck by a tree in Scotland.
Mum Sal Galloway, 59, tragically died after being swept out to sea while walking her dog on an Isle of Wight seafront on Monday.
The Met Office has warned of "chilly" conditions accompanied by fog and rain at the start of November.
In its long-range outlook for November 1 to November 10, the forecaster said: "Pressure is set to build in the vicinity of the UK as we move into early November, with a lot of dry weather as a result.
"Cloud amounts will be quite variable with weak fronts bringing a focus of cloud, and possibly light rain at times, but there is no significant bias to where these are favoured.
"Within the high pressure, some places, perhaps more likely towards the east, will likely see overnight and morning fog, which at this time of year could take a while to clear and where it lingers, it will remain chilly.
"Otherwise, temperatures generally fairly close to average for most during this period. Winds will generally be light, although stronger for the coastal north at times."
