Flight crew aboard an easyJet flight bound for Scotland were reportedly forced to alert operational command and prepare ground support after a suspected stomach virus broke
At least eight passengers onboard an easyJet flight to Scotland were reportedly left vomiting after a suspected sudden sickness bug outbreak.
Flight crew on board the jet had to "notify operational command and arrange ground support" after the outbreak erupted mid-flight, AirLive reports.
Flight U23116 took off from Sharm el-Sheikh late on Wednesday evening for an overnight journey across Europe to Glasgow.
The trip descended into chaos during the early hours of Thursday, October 22, while the aircraft was travelling through Dutch airspace. According to reports from the cockpit, the pilots made contact with the easyJet Flight Operations Centre to flag up a rapidly developing medical emergency.
The crew reported a suspected norovirus outbreak on board, reportedly saying that at least eight passengers were simultaneously suffering severe nausea and vomiting.
Norovirus, an extremely infectious bug which causes acute gastroenteritis, can transmit swiftly in confined environments such as commercial aircraft cabins, frequently triggering sudden onset symptoms including vomiting and watery diarrhoea.
Despite the difficult conditions, the crew maintained control of the aircraft and continued on the planned flight path toward the UK.
The plane landed safely on Runway 23 at Glasgow Airport at around 2:45am BST. Medical personnel and airport operations were briefed ahead of the landing to assist the affected holidaymakers upon arrival.
