An 84-year-old grandad who was one of two people killed in a horror three-car crash during Storm Boelo has been named.
Jim McCollum was the driver of a blue Peugeot 208 that collided with a white BMW and blue Citroen Saxo on the B708 Lower Bathville road, in Bathgate, West Lothian, at around 12.15pm on Sunday.
He died at the scene along with Arran Callander, 20, the driver of the BMW.
The passenger of the BMW, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment, and the occupants of the Citroen, a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were assessed by paramedics at the scene.
In a statement released by Police Scotland, Jim's family said: “Jim was a gentle and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his heartbroken family. The family wishes to thank the emergency services who attended the scene of the crash.”
The tragedy unfolded as an amber weather warning for Storm Boelo was in place until Sunday evening across most of Scotland, reported the Daily Record.
Images taken from the scene show a large cordon in place as officers scour the crash site. The road was closed to allow crash investigation work to take place and cops are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Arran's sister, Angela, led the tributes to the young man who was described as "one of a kind".
She said: "You will be so missed by so many. It's not sunk in. I want to see you again. It's like I'm dreaming. Thinking of everyone affected by the crash, Love you so much, forever and always. Fly high."
Many other people have also spoken fondly of Arran, with Amelie Johansen writing: "I'm never going to get my head around this. My longest friend. The memories we’ve shared along with all the laughs we’ve had will always be at the front of my mind.
"I'll never forget your one liners. You had everyone laughing. You really were one of a kind, Arran. None of this feels real and I don't think it ever will. The grief that has come with this is unbearable. Until we meet again, Arran. I love you loads."
While Katie Cummings said: "Thoughts to Arran's family. He was always lovely when he came into my work," and Ashley Forrest shared: "Heartbreaking for all involved, thinking of A and his family. Such a lovely young man."
Other messages included from Lauren Cawley who said: "Lost for words. Rest easy, Arran. Absolutely gutted," Caitlin Logan wrote: "Rest easy Arran. Young life taken far too soon" and Cole Mckillop penned: "Rest easy Arran forever childhood best mates."
