Lidl is bringing out a new set of 'atmospheric' spheres ahead of Christmas, for anyone keen to start decorating their home early. The supermarket is launching a new range of festive decorations next week as part of its upcoming weekly Special Buy refresh.
From Sunday, November 8, customers will be able to get their hands on the store's new Livarno LED Decorative Spheres. A set of three costs £7.99 and is described as "atmospheric" in Lidl's product description online. They also look similar to a pricier version available at Next.
The Livarno light-up spheres are battery-operated, so they can be placed anywhere in the house without needing to be near a plug socket. Lidl says the decorative spheres are "made from high-quality glass with warm white light". Other key features include:
- Six-hour timer with automatic daily repetition
- Simply switch on at your desired time of day and start the timer
- Can also be switched on and off manually
- For indoor use only
The Lidl Livarno set of three LED decorative spheres could be viewed as a budget-friendly alternative to a Laura Ashley set at Next for anyone who loves its look but wants to avoid the premium price tag. Next says: "This charming Set of Three Laura Ashley Crackled Glass Lit Ornaments casts a warm, inviting glow that transforms any mantel or tabletop into a cosy winter retreat. When illuminated, each ornament reveals an intricate forest scene straight from a snow-dusted fairy tale."
Both options provide a nearly identical setup for seasonal decorating, featuring three gold, crackled-glass globes that emit a warm white glow. They also share the exact same sizing footprint, measuring 10cm, 12cm, and 15cm in diameter, meaning they will occupy the same amount of space on a mantelpiece or dining table.
Despite their visual similarities, there is a difference in cost. The Lidl set is priced at just £7.99, while the Next version costs £45, saving shoppers around £37.
Lidl also includes all nine necessary batteries in the box. On the other hand, the Next set requires you to purchase eight batteries separately, which adds another hidden cost to an already expensive item. The Lidl globes come with a built-in six-hour automatic daily timer to save battery life.
One compromise shoppers will make by choosing the cheaper option is the level of design detail. When illuminated, the Next spheres display an intricate, hidden woodland forest scene within the glass.
The Lidl spheres do not have this silhouette and simply emit a classic, textured glow. However, because they achieve the exact same warm, festive atmosphere from across the room, the Lidl set is easily the smarter buy for a budget-conscious shopper.
