WestJet pilot gets urgent message as passenger 'tries to bribe cabin crew'
A passenger on a WestJet flight from Mexico to Canada allegedly became verbally aggressive after a flight attendant refused to accept a bribe for a seat upgrade
A passenger on a WestJet flight to Toronto reportedly became disruptive after their alleged bid to bribe a flight attendant for a seat upgrade was rejected.
The incident happened on Sunday evening during WestJet Flight WS2555 from Cancún, Mexico, to Canada's busiest airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport.
During the four-hour flight, a male passenger allegedly approached a member of the cabin crew and offered cash in exchange for an unauthorised upgrade to an available premium seat, according to Air Live.
The passenger reportedly became agitated and verbally aggressive when the flight attendant refused the offer and explained the airline's upgrade policies.
The cabin crew alerted the captain to the passenger's behaviour. However, no further action - such as a diversion - was required as the passenger eventually calmed down.
The Boeing 737 landed safely in Toronto late on Sunday night.
It is not known whether police met the aircraft upon arrival.
The Mirror has contacted WestJet for further information.
WestJet is Canada's second-largest airline, with nearly 200 aircraft and flights to more than 100 destinations across North America, Central America and the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.
It comes after the engine of an Airbus jet burst into flames just moments before take-off.
LATAM Airlines flight LA2302 experienced an "unforeseen technical event" on the runway at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, the capital of Peru, last Monday, the airline said.
The fire broke out in the Airbus A320's left engine as the aircraft lined up on the runway ahead of its flight to Piura, in the north-west of the country. Emergency procedures were activated and passengers were evacuated after the captain reported a problem with the left landing gear.
LATAM Airlines Peru confirmed that all passengers had disembarked safely and that no injuries were reported. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
