Putin declares Russia 'ready for war' with Europe but warns there'll be 'no winners' Russian President Vladimir Putin has said his country is 'ready' for war with Europe, but insists he does not want it - and has warned there will be 'no winners' Vladimir Putin said Russia is ready for a war with Europe but warned that "there will be no winners". The chilling remarks were made during a press conference today, during which the Russian President also revealed he has held conversations with Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Støre. Putin said he welcomed the calls as a step in the right direction and explained the initiative came from the European leaders. He did not, however, provide any further details about what the discussions with the two Scandinavian leaders entailed. Putin said Europe has failed to achieve its goal of defeating Russia and that this is unlikely to happen by 2030. This comes as western defence intelligence has previously stated that by 2030, Russia could possess the necessary resources to launch an attack on NATO. Putin said: "Many people are constantly talking about preparing for war by 2030. Is this right or wrong? First of all, we are ready, but we don't want any war with Europe." He added: "And if anyone wants to, let them prepare, but they have not yet achieved their goal of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia; it is unlikely that this will be possible by 2030." UA.news reports that Putin stated he supports any steps taken towards restoring relations with Europe and that he is willing to engage in dialogue. Also during today's news conference, which took place after a plenary session of the Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, Putin claimed Russia remembers the lessons of the First and Second World War and that Moscow is doing everything possible to avoid similar scenarios repeating themselves.
