Tributes have been paid to 'strong and dedicated leader' Zoe Johnson-Walker who was the headteacher at Winston Churchill School in Woking
A Surrey school's headteacher has died suddenly despite emergency services rushing to the school.
Zoe Johnson-Walker, who led the Winston Churchill School in Woking, passed away unexpectedly yesterday (Thursday) morning. Paramedics and an air ambulance were called to the secondary school but a spokesperson for Surrey County Council confirmed Mrs Johnson-Walker had died.
Helyn Clack, SCC Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Lifelong Learning said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the unexpected death of Mrs Zoe Johnson-Walker, Headteacher of The Winston Churchill School, Woking.
"Mrs Johnson-Walker was a significant presence within the Surrey education community for many years. She was a strong and dedicated leader who consistently championed her students and school, always advocating passionately for the best outcomes for children and young people.
"Zoe’s loss will be keenly felt by those who knew her, and our thoughts are with her family and friends, colleagues, students and the whole school community at this incredibly difficult time. We ask that the privacy of Zoe's family, friends and the wider school community is respected, including students and staff as they come to terms with this sudden and tragic loss."
A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service told Surrey Live that emergency services were called to the school just before 8.30am yesterday. They said: "South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) was called just before 08.30 yesterday (29/10/26) following reports of a medical emergency at Winston Churchill School in Woking.
"Crews were joined at the scene by the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex."
