Character Technologies should hire a privacy ombudsman to assess whether its artificial intelligence platform is harmful to children, as part of its plan to license some of its technology to Walt Disney Co., a judge said in a bankruptcy court hearing Friday.
US Bankruptcy Judge Brendan Shannon said he would “strongly encourage” the company to hire an expert to evaluate customer privacy concerns over the company’s platform which have sparked lawsuits and investigations by several states. Although Shannon declined to order that an ombudsman be appointed, he said that the move would help alleviate concerns expressed by several state attorneys general.
