Ebola medics dance as last patients at Democratic Republic of Congo facility are discharged
Health workers at an Ebola treatment centre in the Democratic Republic of Congo celebrated after the final patients were discharged from the facility in Mongbwalu, the historic epicentre of the outbreak.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said the centre in Ituri has no confirmed cases in beds for the first time since the Ebola outbreak was declared in May.
According to government data, more than 5,000 people have now died from the DRC outbreak.
“Still, dozens of new cases are being detected every day in other parts of the country. MSF teams continue to work tirelessly, across six of the eight affected provinces, to contain the outbreak and save lives,” MSF said.
