NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Congress president YS Sharmila has shifted her daughter's wedding to another venue after her brother, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, refused to allow his Bengaluru property to be used for the ceremony. In a social media post on X, Sharmila defended her ownership claim over the Yelahanka property and said it was allotted entirely to her and her children as part of the division of family assets after her brother Jagan Reddy became chief minister.“What is mine is mine, but the greed to covet it is not in my nature. After Jagan Mohan Reddy became chief minister, the Yelahanka property, which until then was a joint family property, came entirely (100 per cent) to my share and that of my children as part of the division of assets. This is the truth, with God as my witness," Sharmila said."Since it is my children's right and the house where my father YSR lived, we wanted to hold my daughter Anjili's wedding there, as she had wished. Ask any household in Telugu society, and they will tell you that getting one's daughter married in one's own house is considered a blessing for every parent," she added.
Sharmila said she had decided to organise her daughter's wedding ceremony elsewhere as it was her responsibility to ensure that the event remained free of controversy.
"However, we are very saddened that we could not fulfil my daughter's wish to have her wedding at the very house where she grew up. My salutations to everyone who felt concerned about my daughter after seeing the developments taking place over the wedding venue," she said."My daughter Anjili's marriage is a match arranged by elders. It is our responsibility to conduct the wedding without controversy and without any disputes. Therefore, we have decided to hold the wedding ceremony of YS Anjili Reddy and Somala Raghuram Reddy at a different venue instead of the Yelahanka house, in the presence of relatives, friends and well-wishers. We wholeheartedly wish that the Telugu people will shower their blessings and good wishes on the couple,” she added.
This comes after Jagan Mohan Reddy cited security reasons for refusing to let out the Yelahanka Palace for the wedding ceremony of his niece, Anjili Reddy, in Bengaluru. In the letter, he pointed out that a wedding would bring a large number of guests, caterers, decorators, photographers and other service providers into the residential premises."At the end of the day, this is my home and I want to ensure that my family and I are safe here," Jagan wrote.
